What we almost always do on Sunday Afternoon

Ever see "Joe vs the Volcano,"?  Its an early Meg Ryan/Tom Hanks movie that didn’t quite make it with the critics or the box office, but it has its moments.  On Sundays, we often refer to the part where the Tom Hanks character, a former hero fireman, now neurotic office worker believing that he is dying of a "brain cloud;" buys some very expensive luggage.
"Will you be traveling light or heavy?"
"Heavy."
"Allow me to show you our top of the line suitcase"
"I’ll take four"
"May you live a thousand years."

Why do we travel so heavy on Sundays after church to my Mom’s house?

DH might get a chance to play guitar, he will definitely phone his folks on the cell phone,
B might build Lego castles, or read library books,
(I did have him fix the seat belt so it wasn’t around his neck by the way)
or play Pokemon with Dad, I might work on scrap books, after all, my Mom has more rubber stamps than I do,
M might need his stuffed animal army at nap time, or his mags
K can’t pack much yet, she is content to watch the rest of us.

But after Sunday Dinner, we usually just watch the Discovery Channel.

  1. Oy! I totally know what you mean. We spent Saturday at my parents' house for my dad & M's birthdays, and we had bags with diapers, presents, the cake, the olive oil & camembert, books… it was a little ridiculous.

What's your plan to keep those Mags out of the mouth of K? I thnk we're just going to throw ours away… the boys aren't obsessive about cleaning them up, and I have a horror of P swallowing two and ending up with emeergency surgery.

  2. Whenever I find a stray Mag or Lego, I make the boys put them away in their Tofast drawers in their rooms. B still remembers Choking Hazard Drills from when M was a baby, so he picks things up conscientious. He makes reports with dramatic gasps for breath, "MOM, there was a LEGO on the FLOOR! but I picked it up."

    I need to start Drills again;

I announce "I am about to put Baby K on the floor, you boys have 3 min to save any choking hazards from being thrown out." and they scurry around with baskets to pick things up. I theoretically through out whatever they miss, but B doesn't miss anything, he remembers the MacDonald's toy from 2003 or whatever it was that did get pitched. M is much more cavalier.

Mostly they Lego in the living room or their rooms, so most little things are contained, we are about to put the gate on their door so they will have one floor with a safe place for long continuing projects, but K is scooting, soon she will be more mobile.

I think I'll hold a drill right after nap time!
