The Christmas Crafting Fair

Ever since B’s first year of homeschool, I’ve manned a table at the LIFE Group’s Christmas Crafting Fair.  I’ve always bitten off more than I could chew, picked crafts that were too expensive, and gotten a headache.   B was not usually as into the crafts as the food and friends…that used to bother me.  But I like crafts, and introducing children to techniques that they might extend to other projects.

I tried to limit the number of kids who could come to my table at once by only having two chairs in front.  We were making any of the three quilled gift tags from my Mom’s Card Maker Magazine.  It sort of worked out OK, I think next year I’ll go back to the butcher shop system of number slips and I’ll have to be tough about not letting the older kids slip in because, “They won’t need to be taught, they can figure it out from the instructions…”

B had charge of K, she was very happy to get to glue lots of things, and to swirl in her Christmas dress that is almost to short for her (I wanted her to get to wear it at least once, and to my surprise, she didn’t even get paint on it.)

None of my own kids ever came to my table, although M did help me make the samples.

But back home, after the hub-bub, he has extended the project, here is his two headed dragon:

So…next year?

I’ll probably bite off more than I can chew, let more kids than I can manage come to my table at one time and spend too much money.  It’s OK, I like teaching kids crafts, seeing my friends and eating Christmas Cookies.
