Ah the Modern Life

This morning we woke to the sound of our neighborhood transformer failing.

I drowsed a bit, then realized that no electricity meant no coffee, and no computer!

We enjoyed our cheerios and milk, I took a bath while the hot water lasted (might as well, it wouldn’t keep).   I realized as I dried off that my towel manuvers made the candle flicker.  Then when I tried to carry out the accumulated laundry and open the door while carrying the candle (I couldn’t do it) it occurred to me that people must have moved and worked differently before electric light.  You can’t load your arms up, you can’t flap about.  I’ve read that actors in period films find period underwear (especially corsets) helpful in getting into character, I wonder if candles do too.

Then I got into snow gear so K could get outside to “dig wi’ a ‘poon.”

DH meanwhile had begun a charcoal fire, to make me some coffee!

Of course, you are reading this, so I did get power.  Post hoc, ergo propter hoc, it must have been that I had coffee another way  that fixed the electricity.
