Blessings during the Blues

I think I’ve posted before that I get weepy in June?  Most years it sneaks up on me, I get frustrated with myself, and DH reminds me that it’s June: My Daddy died in June.

And (though Charles and Brunelle, the court cases that established the precrdents for homeschooling in Mass, don’t mention when we have to turn in our annual reports) the schools would like the progress reports before they have to close the offices for the summer.  Writing business letters to the various offices makes me nervous.  And I can’t control when BJU will send me the Stamford Achievement tests – usually in July, after the offices close.

So that’s the blues part.  It’s like having a cold in my soul.  Not that I’m always on the edge or serious – I enjoyed going out for dinner on Saturday, watching movies with the boys, and making that tricky swatch, but some illogical unease is behind me all the time.

DH has been so kind to me, even when I’m annoyed at myself for not making sense.  The kids asked if they could make next week’s menu: they want a strawberry meal, a lemon meal and a chocolate meal.  How we are going to get the protein in is going to be fun, I think we will try mole for the chocolate meal – any suggestions?

  1. I’m sorry about your sadness. My mother used to feel that way about May, because my grandmother died in May. It took having her first grandchild in May to help her overcome this sadness.

I share your jitters about paperwork. I’ve been doing mine for 12 years now and I can still feel worried and inadequate when I fill it in.

Chocolate…Have you ever seen the movie Chocolat? There was a whole chocolate meal served on that movie. I’ve also seen it done on the Food Network’s Iron Chef. I wonder if the episodes are available online? Usually chocolate in the main course consists of dark or white chocolate, not milk. The only thing I can offer is chili. Someone gave me the advice to throw some chocolate in to help take the sting out of the chili pepper. It really does work!

    Peace and Laughter!

  2. I was surprised that the Seabra grocery was out of Donna Maria Mole – I’ve always meant to try it anyhow. So we decided on under-achiever’s mole: we will melt Lindt chili chocolate on our chicken.

The boys are still excited that we are actually doing a chocolate meal. Next time I’ll look up the Iron chef episodes too.
