Progress Notes

I’ve started K on “Run around the clock” and “Glue the Sounds Together” games from Spell to Write and Read.  She can glue the sounds into words, but oddly, she doesn’t hear initial consonants, just as she often omits initial consonants when she speaks.

M has begun to do math sheets independently, and to practice recorder on his own.  He is working through melodies much more rapidly, and remembering notes more accurately from sheet music.  We are still in a holding pattern with M and phonics, trying to get the sound/symbol correspondence nailed, reading aloud a ton, and doing copywork to keep his writing fluid, even if he can’t always read what he writes.  He is reading sentences from his physics book, even though the pages are so thin that the illustrations are visible through the text and there isn’t much leading.  He is so interested in physics that he is powering through the polysyllabic words.  We can get through about 3 sentences before I judge that he is  at his limit.  (Easy to tell, he starts kicking the table and swaying.)

K is proud of her big girl status as a homeschool student – though it’s really only 15 minutes on her own and sharing some of M’s activities.

B continues to work independently, rise early, and get it done so he can read library books and play strategy games.  This week he had extra rehearsals, and will perform at the Jr High concert, and the High School Graduation.
